Cherbourg is the biggest city of the Département de la Manche, which overlays from La Pointe de la Hague to Le Mont Saint Michel. Located on the sea side, in a region called "Le Cotentin", three hours from Paris by train 10 times a day, the town has four main harbours and the very new "Cité de la Mer" opened Since July, 2004. Many very nice touristic places such as castles, monuments, beaches, are located around Cherbourg. During World War II, the town was the first main military objective of the D-Day of June 6, 1944, and many well known historical places of this day are very close to Cherbourg: Omaha and Utah beaches, Sainte Mère l'église, military memorials and military cemeteries of both sides. Located at the biggest world human built roadstead, Cherbourg has mainly four harbours for fishing, pleasance, commerce and navy. Its particular position places Cherbourg at second rank of French ports for travel passengers. There are two main industries in Cherbourg: COGEMA, the world leader for treatment of radioactive elements coming from nuclear electric power stations, and DCN where are built various kinds of ships for French navy.
Cherbourg is located in the NORTH WEST of France 360 km from Paris. The conference will take place in Science campus, IUT Cherbourg Manche, on July 01-03, 2008.

Travelling to Cherbourg
- By Train:
The City of Cherbourg is served by the Paris/Cherbourg railway line. Take the train from Paris Saint-Lazare station. It takes 3 hours and a half to reach Cherbourg. Then from Cherbourg's SNCF train station, you can take bus number 1. The bus station is on your left hand side at the exit of the train station. - By Plane:
- From Paris airport
- take a taxi or the RER (the Parisian sub way) to go to 'Paris Saint-Lazare SNCF' train station.
- you can also take a plan (only from Paris Orly West airport) to Cherbourg's airport (two returns per day).
- From Caen airport (Caen-Carpiquet) take a taxi to go to Caen SNCF train station.

Transport in Cherbourg
The venue can be easily reached from the city centre or the gare SNCF by bus number 1. You take the bus 'Les Fourches' direction until the 'IUT' station (it takes 20 minutes from the city centre).
